The N type tank replaced its Marder \u003cbr\u003eIII main battery with a 7.5cm gun which could fire high-performance \u003cbr\u003ehigh-explosive bursting projectile shells. From June 1942 through to \u003cbr\u003eAugust 1943, existing J, L, \u0026amp; M models also received these upgrades \u003cbr\u003eand 663 tanks were fitted, and another 37 were also upgraded later in \u003cbr\u003e1944. In the summer of 1942 these tanks appeared on the battlefield with\u003cbr\u003e their highly explosive shells, and they proved to be highly efficient \u003cbr\u003ein their role of reinforcing the ground troops. They were deployed into \u003cbr\u003enewly organized heavy tank battalions, to make up for the lack of Tiger I\u003cbr\u003e tanks.
