The Yukikaze was the 8th completed destroyer \u003cbr\u003ebuilt of the Kagero-class in January 1940. The Yukikaze saw fierce \u003cbr\u003eaction at Midway, Guadalcanal, Mariana Islands, Leyte Gulf, as well as \u003cbr\u003eserving in other battles throughout the Pacific Theater. Furthermore, \u003cbr\u003eshe also served as a patrol ship and assisted in transportation duties. \u003cbr\u003eAt the time of her completion, she initially came armed with three dual \u003cbr\u003e12.7cm gun turrets and two quadruple 61cm torpedo launchers, but in the \u003cbr\u003elatter stages of the War, her armament was strengthened with a \u003cbr\u003ecompliment of AA guns as well as radar changing her beautiful silhouette\u003cbr\u003e into one of ferociousness. Even at the Ten-Ichi-Go operation in April \u003cbr\u003e1945 where she fought hard alongside with the doomed Yamato, she was \u003cbr\u003eable to save many survivors and return safely to port. The Yukikaze \u003cbr\u003esurvived WWII relatively undamaged she was therefore named“the Lucky \u003cbr\u003eDestroyer”. After the war, she was used to ferry Japanese soldiers and \u003cbr\u003epersonnel back to Japan.
