It remained in frontline use until May \u003cbr\u003e1945.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3 id=\"IAR_80\"\u003eIAR 80\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eProduction of the IAR 80 started \u003cbr\u003eimmediately, although the armament proved to be a serious problem. The \u003cbr\u003eprototype had mounted only two \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Belgium\" title=\"Belgium\"\u003eBelgian\u003c\/a\u003e-made \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fabrique_Nationale\" class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Fabrique Nationale\"\u003eFabrique Nationale\u003c\/a\u003e 7.92 mm \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Machine_guns\" class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Machine guns\"\u003emachine guns\u003c\/a\u003e, a licensed modification of the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/M1919_Browning_machine_gun\" title=\"M1919 Browning machine gun\"\u003eBrowning .30 cal\u003c\/a\u003e. This armament was not heavy enough against modern aircraft, and the production model was expected to mount six. The \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/German_invasion_of_Belgium_(1940)\" title=\"German invasion of Belgium (1940)\"\u003eGerman invasion of Belgium\u003c\/a\u003e in 1940 suspended the supply from FN, and there was no suitable replacement. The first aircraft began production in January 1940, and by 10 July the\u003cbr\u003e first IAR 80 took flight, followed by the 2nd on 19 July. The first \u003cbr\u003efive aircraft were ready to be delivered in November 1940, with the \u003cbr\u003efirst batch of 20 being delivered by the middle of February.
