Standard colours of Ukrainian Su-27 fleet in pixel camouflage
The
Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker is a twin-engine multirole fighter (S version,
with ability of attacking ground targets) / pure fighter-interceptor
aircraft (P version).
In 1992 after collapse of the Soviet Union,
Ukrainian AF inherited a substantial number of various aircraft,
including up to 67 Su-27s of S, P and UB variants. In the next two
decades, due to funding shortages, some airframes were permanently
withdrawn, sold or put into temporary storage.
In 2012 Zaporozhye
State Aviation Repair Factory started overhauling the Su-27s, with
partial modernization to Su-27S1M/P1M and UB1M/UP1M standard. Overhauled
Su-27s feature a distinctive pixel camouflage in two variants (applied
in 2012-15 and after 2015) distinguishable by different light blue
colour on upper surfaces.
