He is known for his ambush of elements of the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/British_7th_Armoured_Division\" class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"British 7th Armoured Division\"\u003eBritish 7th Armoured Division\u003c\/a\u003e during the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Battle_of_Villers-Bocage\" title=\"Battle of Villers-Bocage\"\u003eBattle of Villers-Bocage\u003c\/a\u003e on 13 June 1944.
