The Tolfvan m/37 (Malli 1937) was a 100 kg general-purpose demolition bomb designed and produced by the Finnish defense contractor Oy Tolfvan Ab.
It served as the heaviest standard heavy-yield ordnance developed by the company for the Finnish Air Force during the late 1930s, seeing operational deployment throughout the Winter War and the Continuation War.
Key Details & Specifications
  • Design Lineage: Designated in the Finnish inventory system as the Pmi 100 (Panssarimiina / Demolition/Mine bomb 100 kg class), the m/37 represented an evolution of Tolfvan's early 1930s bomb concepts. It shifted the tactical role from light fragmentation (anti-personnel) to structural demolition, targeting hardened enemy defenses, bunkers, bridges, and supply hubs.
  • Manufacturing Capacity: During the high-intensity phase of the Winter War, Tolfvan’s domestic factories scaled operations rapidly, producing up to 80 tons of total bomb volume per month to maintain the front lines.
  • Aircraft Deployment: The 100 kg m/37 bomb was explicitly integrated into the primary heavy payload schemes of the Bristol Blenheim bomber fleet. Due to its 100 kg weight class, these weapons were stowed internally within the main bomb bay using Tolfvan’s heavy-duty internal racks, providing maximum aerodynamic efficiency during transit compared to the smaller underwing stores.
  • Aviation Kit Integration: The m/37 is historically cataloged alongside Tolfvan's lighter components—the 12.5 kg (Psi 12.5), 25 kg (Psi 25), and 50 kg (Pmi 50) munitions—making up the complete domestic arsenal available to Finnish aircrews during World War II
