The G.50 commonly came up against the British \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hawker_Hurricane\" title=\"Hawker Hurricane\"\u003eHawker Hurricane\u003c\/a\u003e,\u003cbr\u003e which was fast enough to frequently outrun the Italian opponent, and \u003cbr\u003ecould also outrange it. At the end of 1939, before the outbreak of hostilities, \u003cbr\u003eFinland ordered 35 Fiat G.50s. The first 10 aircraft were to be \u003cbr\u003edelivered before February 1940. A group of Finnish pilots attended a \u003cbr\u003e10-hour training course at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Guidonia_Montecelio\" title=\"Guidonia Montecelio\"\u003eGuidonia\u003c\/a\u003e airport and later at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fiat_Aviazione\" title=\"Fiat Aviazione\"\u003eFiat Aviazione\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cbr\u003e in Turin. On a training flight, during a dive from 3,500 m (11,500 ft),\u003cbr\u003e Lieutenant Tapani Harmaja reached an estimated speed of 780 km\/h \u003cbr\u003e(480 mph), which was considered excessive for the structural integrity \u003cbr\u003eof the aircraft.
