It had a crew of two and was equipped with a short 37mm main armament and a 7.5mm coaxial machine gun. \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe FCM 36 was developed from 1934 onwards as part of a programme to replace the obsolete \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Renault_FT\" title=\"Renault FT\"\u003eRenault FT\u003c\/a\u003e.\u003cbr\u003e As it was more expensive to produce than competing designs, only a \u003cbr\u003elimited production of a hundred was authorised. It featured some \u003cbr\u003eadvanced technologies such as a diesel engine and extensive use of \u003cbr\u003ewelded \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sloped_armour\" title=\"Sloped armour\"\u003esloped armour\u003c\/a\u003e. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3 id=\"German_use\"\u003eGerman use\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003ch3 id=\"Ausf._B\"\u003e\n\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003eThe Germans captured 37 FCM 36s, using the administrative designation \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003ePanzerkampfwagen 737 FCM (f)\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003e for them.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003e After some improvised use by units in May and June 1940, they were not as such employed by them. In 1943 ten were rebuilt as \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marder_I\" title=\"Marder I\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003eMarder I\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003e tank destroyers, with the 75mm \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PaK_40\" class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"PaK 40\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003ePaK 40\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003e anti-tank gun and officially called \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003e7.5cm PaK40(Sf) auf Geschützwagen FCM(f)\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003e. These were employed by 21 \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003ePanzerdivision\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003e in the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Operation_Overlord\" title=\"Operation Overlord\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003eBattle of Normandy\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003e in 1944.
