On 19 September 1949, the prototype Gannet performed its \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maiden_flight\" title=\"Maiden flight\"\u003emaiden flight\u003c\/a\u003e.\u003cbr\u003e Four years later, it was brought into regular service with the FAA. The\u003cbr\u003e service would use the type from the majority of its aircraft carriers \u003cbr\u003ethroughout the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cold_War\" title=\"Cold War\"\u003eCold War\u003c\/a\u003e.
