In May 1940, the Battles of the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Advanced_Air_Striking_Force\" class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Advanced Air Striking Force\"\u003eAdvanced Air Striking Force\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cbr\u003e suffered many losses, frequently in excess of 50 per cent of aircraft \u003cbr\u003esorties per mission. By the end of 1940 the type had been withdrawn from\u003cbr\u003e front-line service and relegated to training units overseas.
