The Mikoyan-Gurevich Ye-152-1 (E-152/1) was the first of two single-engine experimental high-speed interceptor prototypes built by the Soviet Mikoyan design bureau in the early 1960s, and it served as the actual airframe behind the famous fictitious record-breaker designated E-166.Key Facts and Records
- First Flight: Maiden flight took place on 21 April 1961, piloted by renowned test pilot Georgy Mosolov. [1]
- Powerplant: Powered by a single Tumansky R-15-300 afterburning turbojet engine, delivering up to 99.6 kN (22,400 lbf) of thrust with afterburner.

World Records: Registered with the international aviation federation (FAI) under the cover designation E-166 to keep the advanced military project secret, the Ye-152-1 set several absolute records:
- 2,401 km/h (1,492 mph) over a 100 km closed circuit in October 1961 (flown by Aleksandr Fedotov).
- 2,681.7 km/h (1,666 mph) absolute speed record on 7 July 1962 (flown by Georgy Mosolov).
- 22,670 meters (74,376 ft) sustained altitude record on 11 September 1962 (flown by Pyotr Ostapenko).
- Design & Purpose: It featured a sharp delta wing and an area-ruled fuselage designed to test high-speed aerodynamics and the automated Uragan-5 intercept guidance weapon system carrying K-9 air-to-air missiles.
