All B\u003cbr\u003e Mk XVIs were capable of being converted to carry the 4,000 lb \u003cbr\u003e(1,800 kg) \"Cookie\". The two-stage powerplants were added along with a pressurised cabin. \u003ci\u003eDZ540\u003c\/i\u003e first flew on 1 January 1944. The prototype was converted from a IV (402 built). The next variant, the \u003cb\u003eB Mk XX\u003c\/b\u003e,\u003cbr\u003e was powered by Packard Merlins 31 and 33s. It was the Canadian version \u003cbr\u003eof the IV. Altogether, 245 were built. The B Mk XVI had a maximum speed \u003cbr\u003eof 408 mph (657 km\/h), an economical cruise speed of 295 mph (475 km\/h) \u003cbr\u003eat 20,000 ft, and 350 mph (560 km\/h) at 30,000 ft,\u003cfont size=\"1\"\u003e\u003c\/font\u003eceiling of 37,000 ft (11,000 m), a range of 1,485 nmi (2,750 km), and a\u003cbr\u003e climb rate of 2,800 ft per minute (853 m).
