RS1 was later named ‘Colin Archer’ \u003cbr\u003eafter its designer and builder. The sharp-sterned design of the vessel \u003cbr\u003ehas given it world-wide reknown. Roughly 30 boats of this type were \u003cbr\u003ebuilt, most of them at the Colin Archer shipyard at Tollerodden in \u003cbr\u003eLarvik. RS1 Colin Archer has had an eventful past. After 40 years as a \u003cbr\u003esalvage vessel, the ship was sold in 1933 to private owners, who added a\u003cbr\u003e small auxiliary motor. It crossed the Atlantic in 1938, suffered severe\u003cbr\u003e storm damage in North Carolina in October 1954, and was found as a \u003cbr\u003ewreck on the Potomac River in 1960. After 23 years in the USA, the Colin\u003cbr\u003e Archer was returned to Norway in December of 1961 as deck cargo on the \u003cbr\u003efreighter ‘MS Tasco.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-size: 14px;\"\u003eThen followed a series of owners – and both good and hard times. \u003cbr\u003eFinally, on 21 April 1972, the oldest salvage vessel in Norway was \u003cbr\u003ehanded over to the Norwegian Maritime Museum in Oslo. In 1973, \u003cbr\u003eresponsibility for the vessel was given to the Colin Archer Cutter Club,\u003cbr\u003e which has since completely restored the ship and sails it, in agreement\u003cbr\u003e with the Norwegian Maritime Museum, as a functioning reminder of the \u003cbr\u003epast.
