Takom 1/35.

The VK 45.02 (H) was an experimental German heavy tank design developed by Henschel & Sohn during World War II, serving as a critical evolutionary step between the Tiger I and the Tiger II (King Tiger). [1, 2, 3, 4]
The designation stands for:
  • VK: Vollkettenkraftfahrzeug (Fully tracked motor vehicle)
  • 45: The rough design weight class (45 metric tons, though it eventually grew much heavier)
  • 02: The second major design iteration in this weight class
  • (H): Henschel, denoting the manufacturing company (distinguishing it from the Porsche competitors, designated as "P")
  • In 1941, the German military requested a successor to the Tiger I that could sport thicker sloped armor and a more powerful gun. Henschel's initial design, the VK 45.02 (H), was essentially a modified Tiger I hull utilizing sloped armor plates. This draft blueprint—internally known by the drawing number w 1461—showed a clear transition toward the distinctive sloped layout of the final King Tiger. [1, 2, 3, 4]
As development progressed into 1942, requirements shifted dramatically. The tank gained significant weight, and the design eventually mutated completely into what we know today as the Tiger II (Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf. B). Because of this rapid evolution, the VK 45.02 (H) never left the drawing board or progressed past early blueprint drafts
