The real-world MAN KAT I series, on which the model is based, was developed to provide modern, high-mobility vehicles for the German armed forces.
- Design: The KAT I family, which includes 4x4, 6x6, and 8x8 configurations, was designed for maximum commonality of parts. The 8x8 model, such as the 10t and 15t versions, is used for transporting heavy loads like ammunition, fuel, and missile systems.
- U.S. variants: At the request of the U.S. military, some KAT I 8x8 variants were adapted for American use, where they were known as Category 2 trucks.
- Successor: The MAN KAT I trucks have been succeeded by the more modern MAN SX and RMMV HX tactical truck families.
