As the design was refined, plans to use the indigenous \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/STAL_Dovern\" title=\"STAL Dovern\"\u003eSTAL Dovern\u003c\/a\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turbojet\" title=\"Turbojet\"\u003eturbojet\u003c\/a\u003e engine were put aside due to technical difficulties in favour of the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Licensed_production\" title=\"Licensed production\"\u003elicense-built\u003c\/a\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rolls-Royce_Avon\" title=\"Rolls-Royce Avon\"\u003eRolls-Royce Avon\u003c\/a\u003e powerplant instead. On 3 November 1952, the first prototype performed its \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maiden_flight\" title=\"Maiden flight\"\u003emaiden flight\u003c\/a\u003e; following flight testing and several refinements, series production of the type commenced during the following year. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cdt\u003eJ 32B\u003c\/dt\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cdd\u003eAll-weather fighter version initially operated only for bad weather \u003cbr\u003eand night fighter duties. Two prototypes and 118 production aircraft \u003cbr\u003ebuilt between 1958 and 1960, retired in 1973. Armed with four 30 mm ADEN guns, Rb 24 missiles (license-built \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AIM-9_Sidewinder\" title=\"AIM-9 Sidewinder\"\u003eAIM-9 Sidewinder\u003c\/a\u003e), or 75 mm unguided rocket pods.
