One of her 1,488 crew members was killed. \u003cbr\u003eHer sinking was the subject of several inquiries, with investigators \u003cbr\u003ekeen to know how the carrier was lost in spite of efforts to save the \u003cbr\u003eship and tow her to the naval base at \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gibraltar\" title=\"Gibraltar\"\u003eGibraltar\u003c\/a\u003e.
